Hawaii 2010
Obviously I do not have the ability to narrow down vacation pictures, the following 12 posts are all from our family vacation to Hawaii this summer :) It was our first trip to the island of O'ahu and our second visit to Molokai, which is our favorite island of all! I hope you enjoy reading our stories and looking at our pictures... Mahalo!
Ko'Olina
Our beach villa in Ko'Olina was absolutely amazing! What a perfect place to call home for our week on Oahu, with a well stocked kitchen, 3 big bedrooms and bathrooms and a whole wall of windows that slid into the wall - it was cool!
The pool was never busy and the kids loved it. They called the leaf chairs "mores" since I kept telling them there was more to play on. From our lanai we looked over the pool so whenever they were out there eating they asked about the "mores" We also happened to be right in the flight path for Honolulu airport, which, from our perspective with toddlers is about as awesome for location as you can get! All day long they were shouting at airplanes flying by :)

It took them a little while to warm up to the ocean, but they pretty much loved the sand from the get-go. James would dig them big holes to sit in and big sand castles to play with, they were happy campers!
Once they got used to the ocean they wouldn't stay out! They were running in and out and splashing and sitting down in it, these girls were made for Hawaii life
Every night we all had dinner together, it was lots of fun.
The view from Geri and Steves room was incredible, we watched sunsets up there almost every night
Geri and Gramma brought us this wonderful breakfast one morning, and we loved it so much we made it almost every morning after that! Papaya filled with banana, pineapple and mango slices topped with fresh squeezed lime, delicious!

Exploring O'ahu
Aunti Geri was kind (and brave) enough to watch the girls one day so we could check out Waikiki Beach with Mimi, Papa and Gramma. It was fun to see the shops and the beach, but I still can't get over how crowded it was!

...Meanwhile back at Ko'olina Geri had a great time with the girls taking them swimming. Thank you Aunti Geri!

While on Oahu we also stopped at the Punchbowl memorial and cemetery for the soldiers who died in the Pacific Wars, it was such a quiet and solemn place to reflect on those who lost their lives for our freedom.
We didn't take our camera the day we went to the North Shore and saw the Waimea botanical gardens and waterfall. It was nice and paved so we could take the stroller, which made it easy for us to navigate with the kiddos! We stopped at a shrimp shack on the drive back and had some fresh tasty shrimp.
While those of us with kids were looking for paved walking trails and places to eat (because that is what life with twin toddlers revolves around :) Mimi and Papa were out galavanting around Oahu swimming in shark tanks and going in glider plane rides!
Pearl Harbor
We spent a very special day at Pearl Harbor with Grampa, who was stationed there from 1943- 1946. First off we checked out the Aviation History Museum, which was full of old planes and most importantly several other volunteer veterans that Grampa was able to tell stories with from their time in the Navy. We felt so privileged to be able to hear all of those stories and really get to know and understand what Grampa's life was like in the Navy.
Grampa got to go see the Utah memorial, which he remembers fishing on while he was stationed there.

Bradley, Jolene, James and I took all of our kids to tour the Mighty Mo (Missouri battleship). It was really REALLY big!
Our last stop of the day was the boat ride out to the Arizona Memorial. What a sad place to see all of the names of the men who died on that ship and hard to believe oil is still leaking out of it today.
